Every year during the holiday season, we say the same thing—where did the last eleven months go?  And believe me -- at least from what I’ve seen -- the older we get, the faster those months and years seem to fly.  It’s so terribly easy to become mired in a rut and entrenched in a daily grind, but that’s why it’s even more important to make every day count in some small way, either for yourself or in helping others.  Of course, we’re not all in the position to be optimistic every day, but I would venture to say that most of us can leave a little bit of our mark each day a little bit more than we already are.

Think about that this holiday season.  Think not about slowing down the days, but about slowing down how fast you blaze through them in body and mind.  And you know what helps you stop and smell the roses, so to speak?  Music.  Seeing and hearing good music makes you feel good, and opens your own mind up to the possibilities life has to offer.

And now that I’ve gone all philosophical on you, I want to slow down for a minute to wish you all the happiest and healthiest of holidays, and an awesome start to 2013…….

Happy November, everyone.   Well, it’s not happy for some of you, in particular everyone affected by the wrath of Hurricane Sandy earlier this week.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who is struggling with no power, or with damage or devastation to their homes.  I grew up on Long Island, so it’s been particularly difficult to see all of the damage and flooding there, and all up and down the east coast.  If you feel inclined to offer assistance to those affected, one of the best things you can do is to donate money or blood to the Red Cross.

And hey, with all of the crazy weather disasters of late, with a critical Election Day next Tuesday, and with folks still struggling in a tough economy—people are testy, rude, and even downright nasty to each other.  And all I want to say is this--don’t be one of those people, because negativity is a barrier to progress.

Oh wait, that’s not all I want to say.  There is music to discuss and listen to……

Todd May Growing up in Ohio, singer/songwriter Todd May was regaled by the girls from Rickenbacker Air Force Base with tales of sweltering summers in Louisiana, holidays in Okinawa, classrooms in England. They made the world seem exciting yet smaller, more accessible. Dave McGraw & Mandy Fer Dave McGraw and Mandy Fer’s fall tour is taking them down the west coast, through the Rockies, across the Southwest, through the Bible Belt and up to the Midwest. Highlights include an Illinois show on the outskirts of Chicago, where the two recorded their acclaimed album, Seed of a Pine, released February 2012, and a homecoming show in Flagstaff, where McGraw and Fer will beef up their intimate, harmony-laden sound with a full band.  www.daveandmandymusic.com
